2023 was an incredible vintage with a warmer spring but an incredibly moderate summer. Perfect conditions for a cooler climate Syrah.
Littlehale vineyard is just coming into its productive years after being replanted about 6 years ago. The vineyard is meticulously farmed with organic and regenerative practices by Ken Swegles and crew at Rhizos Viticulture.
100% Whole-cluster
- 40% Was in a Semi-Carbonic Fermenter- 10% of that fruit was crushed on the bottom of the tank to release CO2 and protect the other 90% of the uncrushed fruit. After 7 days in carbonic, the fruit was crushed by foot to gain a bit more extraction for 2 days before pressing.
Without yeast or sulfites added. Not Fined or filtered.
13.1% ABV, 3.56 pH
Tasting Notes
Nose: Immediate dark spice and black pepper like a woodsy cologne, roasted meats, bright red fruit and slight blueberry syrup, and delicate violets.
Palate: Fresh and full palate, almost like eating cacao with raspberry and blueberry and supportive oak spice.
*At time of release: I find that this wine drinks very well over the period of a week while tasting optimal about 4-5 days after opening. The beautiful florality, spice, and other classic varietal characters come pronounced.
